Safety Review Half Day

Prevention. Response. Confidence. Open to everyone, but designed especially for those who have some kayaking experience but have never practiced falling out and would like to join us for a trip that requires it. Capsizing calmly and knowing how to get back in with help is the primary objective of this short course. If we accomplish that, we can proceed to things like bracing for support, re-entering solo, tips for efficient paddling, or even starting to learn the roll.

All paddling gear and National Park passes included.

Prices in USD per person

1 person $249

Skill Level

Beginner; paddled a few times. Moderate activity.

Safety Review is customized to your needs and usually runs as a small class, so it’s difficult to put meaningful prerequisites. Perhaps you’ve paddled a bit but never gotten comfortable with falling out and getting back in. It could be that you fall out just fine but struggle to get back in from deep water and want to try out different strategies – there are many and it will increase your confidence tremendously to know what works well for you. Maybe your skilled group wants to practice rescuing each other in the kayaks you’ll use for your trip.

You should at least be beyond Kayak Start course, and able to confidently maneuver to a target, or else take that course first.

Class is at the beach in front of Hotel Oasis. Meet at our Base of Operations two blocks inland. For a zero-emissions trip, walk with your kayak on wheels to the waterfront. Or let us vehicle-shuttle the gear while you walk hands-free. (It is not permitted to transport clients in our vehicles.)

Our Expedition Base is located near the center of Loreto, on Nicolas Bravo 2 doors south of the tall concrete auditorium. It is staffed at designated meeting times and during store hours.

Directions

Go to the waterfront, and turn south on the Malecon (the waterfront road/walkway). At the end of the road and walkway, turn inland (right) one block, then turn left. Pass the tall concrete building on the right, and one house. Our name is painted on the outside wall. We will be prepared to meet you at the pre-arranged meeting time, or during store hours.
