Intro to Kayak Sailing

1 Days
Advanced
$129

If you’ve got solid skills in wind and waves and want some more fun, try out kayak sailing. A sail lets you arrive at camp at the end of the day with more energy, and have more fun getting there. There is a learning curve and it pays to spend some time sorting out the lines and the “what could possibly go wrong” scenarios.

All paddling gear and National Park passes included. Course is dependent on appropriate weather and the non-closure of the Loreto port.

Skill Level

Intermediate paddled a few times. Challenging activity.

Good fitness and stamina for the equivalent of an hour’s brisk walk or jog is required for the Intro to Wind course. Necessary skills include a calm capsize, wet exit (flip over and get out), and assisted deep water re-entry in calm water. You also need to be able to reliably maneuver to a target such as a ball or another kayak.

Intro to Sailing course builds upon these foundations by helping you develop strategies for efficiently applying your skills using the wind to your advantage.

Our Expedition Base is located near the center of Loreto, on Nicolas Bravo 2 doors south of the tall concrete auditorium. It is staffed at designated meeting times and during store hours.

Directions

Go to the waterfront, and turn south on the Malecon (the waterfront road/walkway). At the end of the road and walkway, turn inland (right) one block, then turn left. Pass the tall concrete building on the right, and one house. Our name is painted on the outside wall. We will be prepared to meet you at the pre-arranged meeting time, or during store hours.
