Sample Itinerary – Babes in Boats in Baja
SELF-SUPPORTED CAMPING TRIP IN SEA KAYAKS
All itineraries are subject to weather, Port closures, and other fun factors intrinsic to “Adventure” tourism.
Day 0. Meet in Loreto for a pre-trip briefing and to fit your equipment.
Day 1. Taxi ride from your hotel to the launch. Set out the gear and dive into the team sport of kayak packing. Paddle to Danzante Island and have a picnic lunch. Hike to a scenic overlook to appreciate the mountains and the Loreto islands from a new perspective. Camp on the island. Approx. 6 nautical miles.
Day 2. Wake up on a beach. Life is good! Pack ‘er up and paddle to Isla del Carmen, Loreto’s largest and most varied island. Explore the southern end, with its 2-mile long marine terrace and fossil shells. Enjoy the unique camaraderie of a terrific group of gals! 4-8nm.
Day 3. Leave camp set up for a day trip to Arroyo Blanco with its white cliffs. Stunning scenery and interesting snorkeling. Find the sea cave on the way back. Sea caves, volcanic cliffs. Underwater, too, discover the abundance of marine life by snorkeling the rocky reefs. Ten percent of the fish species found here live nowhere else on earth! 6-8nm.
Day 4. Sip fresh-brewed hot coffee as the aroma of hot-cooked breakfast wakes up your appetite. After breakfast, cross back to Danzante Island, named when explorers encountered natives playing flutes and dancing. Enjoy yet more fun paddling and an appreciation of colorful geology. Take the afternoon sun as an invitation to snorkel. Settle into a new camp and dive deep into the night sky for a spectacular show of stars, planets, and the moon in one of her various phases. 6-8nm.
Day 5. Layover days are the best, so let’s do one here! Wake up on Isla Danzante. Feeling ambitious? Circumnavigate this scenic wonderland. Or kick back and enjoy some snorkeling or some quiet time on the beach. 8nm.
Day 6. Let the sun wake you up with a smile. Recognize the magic of a new day and raise a fresh-brewed toast to whatever it has in store! Pack up and enjoy a final few miles of paddling to the take-out. Return to hotels/campground for that well-deserved shower. 6nm.
Day After. Relax in Loreto. Or fly out to tell your friends what an awesome trip you just had, and to plan the next one!
