Sample Itinerary – Sea Paddler Journey
SELF-SUPPORTED COURSE / CAMPING TRIP IN SEA KAYAKS
All itineraries are subject to weather, Port closures, and other fun factors intrinsic to “Adventure” tourism.
Day 0. Meet in Loreto for a pre-trip briefing and to fit your equipment.
Day 1. Taxi ride from your hotel to the launch. Practice the magic of making a big pile of gear disappear into kayaks. Bond with our kayaks and each other on the crossing to Danzante Island where we get to unload it all and go play! Afternoon games, drills and safety skills after a picnic lunch. Finish your first day on the island with a delicious dinner you wouldn’t believe could be cooked on a beach! Consider the maps and forecast to make a plan for the next days. Approx. 6 nautical miles.
Day 2. Let the sun wake you with a smile. String little rock islands along our route like beads on a necklace. These little segments are perfect navigation practice. Distance and time, pace, and drift. Currents through here can make for fun seas, too. Camp on the coast with a delicious sunrise island view. 7-11nm.
Day 3. Find the power of your core. Yes, you have it! Everything originates here in kayaking: balance, steering, speed, stamina. Add “edging” to your toolbox of maneuvering tricks. The coastline here has many great coves to explore as we go. Each evening, review the forecast and consider the decisions of the coming day, together as a group. Camp at San Cosme where a hot spring fills a pool at the right tide. 8nm.
Day 4. Sip fresh-brewed hot coffee as the aroma of hot-cooked breakfast wakes up your appetite. Layover day to enjoy the area. There’s fine snorkeling, a good place to practice rolling, the hot spring, and a few little islands offshore. 0-6nm.
Day 5. After a breathtaking sunrise, there are a few miles to cover. Today’s coastline features a couple north-facing sandy beaches, fine for a little surf. Paddle in small surf for great practice in dynamic water boat handling. We’ll end the day at Punta Marcial. Skills you’re learning are starting to feel more fluid. Receive custom coaching on the things you want a little more help with. 10-11nm.
Day 6. Optional sunrise paddle to the sea lion rocks off the point. Pack up and consolidate all that great learning in the final miles to our takeout in Agua Verde. Return to Loreto via a marvel of Baja engineering—the Agua Verde road, the only one that dares to scale these mountains. 3-7nm
Day After. Relax in Loreto. Or fly out to tell your friends how much confidence you gained, and to plan the next one!
